Coppice Farm Primary School

A small school with a HUGE heart!

PIPER - OUR DOG MENTOR

We are delighted to announce that we are now a fully affiliated Dog Mentor school following the successful assessment and training completed by our very own Piper, her owner/handler Mrs Quarless-McGee and  her other school handlers, Mrs Meadowcroft and Mr Grady! The Dog Mentor programme has built upon the benefits of the human-animal bond by providing children with positive experiences with dogs that can help them educationally, developmentally, emotionally and socially. Since Piper joined us when she was just 10 weeks old, we have already seen her work her magic with lots of our children. Staff and pupils all love seeing her in school and Piper absolutely loves being part of the Coppice Farm family

Piper update!

In August 2023, Piper and Coppice Farm Primary achieved Gold Award status! It has been wonderful to see her become a fully fledged part of school-life, and the children and staff all love having her in school with us.

In January 2024, two more members of the team, Mr Terry and Miss Wear, completed their handler training, which means she will be able to work with even more children in school and join in even more classroom learning sessions.

What is The Dog Mentor?

Dogs Supporting Education

The Dog Mentor Programme has built upon the benefits of the human-animal bond by providing children positive experiences with dogs that can help them educationally, developmentally,

emotionally and socially. The aim of The Dog Mentor is to create a completely universal offering in your environment for not only social, emotional and mental health well being but also covers all aspects of curriculum based education in order to improve educational outcomes.

Over the past 11 years, implementation of The Dog Mentor Programme in Primary and Secondary schools across the UK has proven to have significant impact on many children’s lives.

These positive impacts follow the premise that improving communication within schools will improve behaviour.

The Dog Mentor Programme has been implemented in over 350 schools all over the UK with over 800 educational professionals having been trained. More importantly, there are now more than 410 Dog Mentor dogs working in school every day.

Coppice Farm is very proud to have our very own Dog Mentor, Piper, and to be part of such an amazing programme
