Coppice Farm Primary School

A small school with a HUGE heart!

R.E.

R.E Lead: Mrs R Davies

At Coppice Farm Primary School our teaching of Religious Education follows the guidance given in the latest Agreed Syllabus for Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire.  We strive to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of the major world faiths enabling children to develop a sound knowledge not only of Christianity but also of other world religions. We aim to engage, encourage, challenge and inspire children so they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to answer challenging questions. Our children are given the chance to reflect on what it means to have a faith and to develop their own spiritual knowledge and understanding.

INTENT

Our overall approach to teaching  Religious Education at Coppice Farm Primary School is based upon respect. The curriculum aims to enrich a child's spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We strive to enable all children:

To access a broad and balanced curriculum in RE which is delivered throughout the school.

To learn about and understand a range of religions and worldviews.

To develop, investigative and research skills enabling children to make reasoned judgements about religious issues

To have respect for other peoples’ views and to celebrate religious and cultural diversity in society.

To develop an informed appreciation of religions so that children can explore religion with openness, interest and enjoyment.

To develop an awareness of spiritual and moral issues in life experiences and be able to reflect on their own experiences as a way to develop a personal response to the fundamental questions of life.

IMPLEMENTATION

We plan our Religious Education curriculum in accordance with the Nottinghamshire Agreed Syllabus. We ensure that the topics studied in Religious Education build upon prior learning. At Coppice Farm we offer opportunities for children of all abilities to develop their skills and knowledge in each unit, and we ensure that the planned progression built into the scheme of work offers the children an increasing challenge as they move through the school.

To enhance children's learning we draw upon children's own experiences of religion, whether this be through celebrations, visiting places of worship or learning about it outside of school.

As the children progress through the school they will encounter different religious and non-religious world views. An important part of RE is that children are encouraged to reflect on their learning and make their own decisions about what they believe. At Coppice Farm children are encouraged to share their thoughts respectfully through discussion and listening and responding to the views of others.

IMPACT

Our school vision is 'nurturing and inspiring the best in everyone'.

The teaching of RE supports this vision as we hope that by providing the children with the opportunities to celebrate themselves and develop respect for others it will equip them with the knowledge and skills to be the best version of themselves and enable them to have a positive impact in society.
